What a UK cleaning invoice needs to contain
- Your business name and address, and a contact email or phone number.
- The customer's name and the address the work was carried out at.
- A unique, sequential invoice number — never reuse one.
- The invoice date and the payment due date.
- A clear description of the work, with quantities and unit prices.
- The total due, and how you want to be paid.
- If you are VAT registered: your VAT number, the VAT rate applied and the VAT amount shown separately.
Getting paid on time
Fourteen days is the usual term for domestic work and thirty for commercial. Send the invoice the day the job finishes — not at the end of the month — and state the due date as a date, not as "14 days". For recurring domestic customers, invoicing after each visit almost always beats monthly billing.
